WATAGANS - 21 SEPT 08
Slippery Rock & Rope Road
Nissan Patrols and a lone Toyota Hilux were the weapons of choice for a scenic drive through the Wattagans. Attendees in the Nissan camp were: Charles and Jen, Brett, Max and Ant (putting in some practice laps before Willowglen), Glenn and Brad, and Andrea from the Nissan Club (a friend of Brett, Charles and Jen) and John John flying the flag for Toyota.
Kick off for the trip was at 9.00 am with Slippery Rock being the first track. After airing down the comment of “let’s go and break something!” would later come back to haunt the comment maker (name withheld). Slippery Rock turned out not to be, slippery that is, and went by without real incidents.
Right rear quarters were the panels of choice to receive some attention by most drivers on Rope Road. A few cars needed help up the steep climb on Rope Road with three snatch straps, a winch strap and two cars (all safety approved of course) needed to help Andrea up one section due to a lack of tyre size and front lockers. This was a surprise as she had done well up until then. Not shy of the right foot.
Bugger Rock provided its own problems with only Charles, Max and of course John John making it up without assistance. Some skilled reversing by one driver (name withheld again) saw the removal of the rear window on a large hidden tree trunk. The earlier comment had come back and bitten him in the arse. Somewhere on Rope Road Max managed to break an engine mount which didn’t hinder him on Bugger Rock.
At the end of Rope Road the damage to cars was assessed. The carnage for the day stood at four quarter panels, one sill, one engine mount, one rear window (removed for ventilation, honest!) and one steering box and return hose. Charles and John John were the only ones to come through the day unscathed and unassisted.
In all it was a great day.
Thanks to Brett for organising it and Charles for leading it.
Cheers
Glenn
