The Hassans’ headed up Fri night to secure a nice camp spot at the Rydal showground. The remaining majority of us meet at McGraws Hill Maccas on Sat morning to drive up.
The weather was perfect and a tad warm. We turned up around 9am and put up tents and tarps and unfolded chairs and tables.
Rose had the pleasure of humorously informing me that our AT4 trip we were running to the Zig Zag and Newnes area had not one single person booked on it! What the..??!! We figured we had scared them all away by mentioning a roll over on the reccie. None the less, we were all slightly bewildered that no one from any other club had wanted to come on the trip.
So with everyone else from all the other clubs off and away on their little days trips, we just all sat around in the Sun, talking, relaxing, snoozing, getting sun burnt and basically doing bugger all!
With Charles itching for a wheel, both myself, Cindy & Jenny headed off in my truck, while Brad took over navi duties for Charles and Hass handed over the keys of his truck to a wide eyed, eager, Anthony who was more than happy to teach Hass the ways of FTA Motorsport.
We ducked off down the back of the showground and headed off to Mt Walker. All was going well until I became severely stuck at the base of Mt Walker in the middle of the rocky track. Bouncing heavily off line saw me land on both my front, and rear diffs, gearbox crossmember, and shock mounts. With all 4 wheels in the air I was going nowhere. For the next 30min there was plenty of rock packing, winching, rock packing, winching, rock packing, snatch block winching, rock packing, snatch block winching, rock packing, snatch block winching and rocking the vehicle side to side until I was finally free! Thanks to the boys for all their efforts!
Now it was Ant’s turn. Taking a slightly different line and, after a few attempts with some well placed rocks, Ant nearly had Hass’ truck up. All the while Glenn is on the UHF updating us on Carmen’s worried and concerned state that she had herself in, dearly hoping that their tidy GQ wagon wouldn’t end up looking like and doing what mine did!
Back at camp safe and sound, the fire was lit and drinks and munchies were passed around. Then it was time for the Triva Night that the Dust & Dirt club had put on. A group of us trudged over to the hall and, along with approx 8 or so other clubs, attempted to out do each other in the knowledge stakes. We ended up coming third which was rather good considering first and second place, Land Rover and BBM, ended up buying nearly all their answers in an attempt to win – whilst also adding to the overall charity donation total as well I might add.
An additional fundraising idea for guessing the exact number of lolly snakes in a jar had me guess the correct number! Only to be outdone by a little 6 year old kid who happened to guess the same number as myself and then we find out that the guessing comp was only meant for kids, so I ended up with nothing! Not happy Jan!
Back to camp, minus my snakes, saw some of us retire early to bed, whilst others stayed up and drank on into the evening. A lazy breakfast and slow pack up on Sunday morning saw us all cruising on home at a leisurely pace after a nice relaxing weekend.
As a combined event for the Greater Sydney Regional Clubs we managed to raise over $1000 for the Centre For Kidney Research, which was more than we raised as a donation for Kids Race Day last year.
Looks like the event will be back bigger and better next year.
Brett.
